In order to ensure that you are as satisfied as possible with your installation, we ask that you take certain considerations into account prior to acquiring a SunClock:
-
Human Sundials are often extremely popular, in some cases
too popular:
-
This can sometimes result in increased litter or lead to disputes between people trying to use the layout at the same time.
-
In some cases, depending on the nature of the area where the SunClock is to be installed, it could potentially attract unwelcomed individuals to the area.
-
Grounds that are supervised, enclosed and generally have more controlled access, as is usually the case with schools, minimizes most of these problems.
-
In order to avoid future unpleasant surprises, it is important to judge wether a 'public' layout is suitable for you based on your knowledge of your local area. Please feel free to
contact us
should you have any concerns about the intended location of your SunClock.
-
Hard Landscape installations can sometimes pose a safety issue should children argue over the use of the space, although for SunClock installations that are painted or inlaid in grassed areas should not be a problem.
-
SunClocks are sometimes installed with slightly raised components, which can make for a very nice design, although we feel that they are not very safe as they pose a
tripping hazard
which could cause injury.
We recommend that they NOT be installed in such a manner, particularly in any location commonly frequented by young children.
-
It is important to have a suitably large and level sunny area available for your SunClock installation.
-
Our SunClocks have an elliptical shape of roughly 6 meters (20 feet) from East to West and 4 meters (15 feet) from North to South.
- Should your area be just a little bit too small, you may still be able to install our SunClocks if you only want it to tell Daylight Saving Time (in summer) but not Standard Time (in Winter).
Please
contact us
for more details.
- If there is not enough room available for a full sized Human Sundial, small working-models of the SunClock can be easily and cheaply built. This is a popular option for schools – see
Educational Benefits
for more details.
-
NOTE:
-
In the case of third party installers such as Architects, Landscapers, Designers or Builders purchasing a SunClock plan to build on someone else’s property, it is important that the landowner or persons otherwise responsible for the property have also been made aware of these considerations.
